Pinterest’s Restyle AI lets shoppers visualise products in their own rooms

Pinterest’s Restyle AI lets shoppers place items in a photo of their space. Brands can prepare assets now so they’re ready when the tool expands.

Pinterest announced a new AI‑driven feature called “Restyle” at its recent Pinterest Presents event. The tool, now in beta for the United States and Canada, lets users upload a photo of a space and ask the AI to add, remove or re‑style items such as furniture, wall art, lighting or paint colour. The AI can also swap in items that users have saved on Pinterest or apply whole‑room style themes like “bohemian” or “industrial.”

The announcement highlighted that Restyle runs on Pinterest Intelligence, which combines Nvidia Blackwell GPUs, Nvidia Dynamo and open‑source models with Pinterest‑built technology. Pinterest said the feature will let people see saved items in their own rooms, potentially moving them closer to purchase.

What Restyle actually does

  • Accepts a user‑uploaded room photo
  • Generates visual edits – adding or removing décor items, changing colours, lighting, or overall style
  • Allows item‑level swaps by clicking on individual objects
  • Supports style prompts such as “bohemian” or “industrial”

Why the capability matters for e‑commerce

While the preview is limited to the US and Canada, brands can start preparing their visual assets now. High‑quality product imagery and well‑structured metadata are generally good practice for any visual‑search or AI‑driven tool.

Preparing your catalogue for Restyle

  • Consider tagging product images with clear, descriptive metadata (category, colour, material) to help AI recognise them.
  • Use high‑resolution, background‑free shots so they can be overlaid onto user photos without visual clash.
  • Organise pins into style‑specific boards (e.g., “Industrial Living Room”) to make it easier for the AI to pull relevant items when a user selects a style prompt.

In addition to the checklist above, audit existing pins for consistency. Uniform naming conventions and consistent aspect ratios can aid AI matching. If you already run visual search ads, aligning the product feed used there with the assets you prepare for Restyle is a sensible step.

Simulating the Restyle experience today

Although the live feature is still in preview, you can create a mock experience that mirrors what Restyle aims to deliver. This helps you test creative concepts and gather early feedback from your audience.

  • Create mock‑up images that place your product in a room setting using design tools.
  • Publish these as carousel pins that demonstrate before‑and‑after visualisation.
  • Add clear “Shop the look” links to each pin so users can click through to the product page.
  • Track engagement metrics such as saves, clicks and comments to gauge interest before the AI tool becomes generally available.

Running a small A/B test—one set of pins with static product shots and another set with the mock‑up visualisation—can reveal whether the visual context drives higher interaction. Use the insights to refine your visual style and messaging.

What to do now

Start auditing your product imagery and metadata today, build style‑themed boards, and experiment with mock‑up shoppable pins. When Restyle expands beyond the US and Canada, you’ll already have a ready‑to‑go visual asset library that the AI can draw from, positioning your brand to benefit from the next wave of visual shopping.
